In last month’s skincare blog, I wrote specifically about after-sun skincare, but this month I thought I’d share a few summer skincare products to use all season long.
So first up, sun protection! Sun cream is so important. On a daily basis, I wear Kimberly Sayer Ultra Light Organic Facial Moisturiser with SPF 30. I’ve mentioned on the LoveLula blog before how much I love this product- I’ve been using this for a few years now and I buy it time and time again. It’s moisturising, has sun protection, and isn’t heavy or oily on my combination skin. When I’m on holiday and really spending time in the sun, I wear proper sun cream with water-proof protection.
On the topic of sun protection, you might protect your face with sun cream, and cover up with a hat or sunglasses, but lips can get overlooked! Our lips need protecting too, which is why I really like Hurraw! Sun Protection Balm SPF 15. The tangerine and chamomile scent smells divine! It is also quite nourishing too thanks to ingredients such as cocoa butter and sweet almond, coconut, and olive oils.
I exfoliate year round, but at the moment I’m exfoliating with UrbanVeda Purifying Exfoliating Facial Polish. The exfoliating power in this comes from natural pumice. The other ingredients that help cleanse skin, balance oiliness, refine pores and hydrate skin includes neem oil, spearmint, and witch hazel. I like this because it’s gentle, but does make my skin feel cleansed and less oily. This is a plus in summer when my skin typically feels oilier than normal! I exfoliate my face about once or twice a week, as I don’t want to overdo it.
UrbanVeda is designed on the principles of Ayurveda, and this is something I find really interesting and different to some of the other brands on the market. I’m using the UrbanVeda Purifying range because that’s what seems best for my combination skin. UrbanVeda also make Radiance, Reviving, and Soothing ranges depending on your specific skincare needs.
Last up in my summer skincare recommendations- eye cream. I know this is something to use year-round, but I do want to make a point to say that if you don’t, summer might be a good time to consider starting to use eye cream. Spending time in the sun is ageing, and even though I take the right precautions in terms of sun protection, I do want to take care of this delicate area and prevent fine lines and bags.
If you are not in the habit of eye cream, I really like Laidbare Pack Your Bags Lighten and Tighten Eye Cream. I like this brand because the whole range is pretty affordable. Personally, I’m in my early 20s and eye cream has become a habit in my beauty routine only in the last year. It’s hard to say definitively whether this helps with ageing as right now, this isn’t my main skin concern- my issue is combination skin. But I do believe in prevention and hope this is helping. I will say that on mornings when I’ve been very tired, using this Laidbare eye cream the night before seems to help me look a bit brighter under the eyes than I really feel inside. I use this as a neck cream too.
That’s it from me! What are your summer skincare secrets?
